I kinda forgot this week even happened. I’ll have to go back and check my notes…
This week blew by so fast, and not even for any reason I can particularly remember. I only worked three days this week, but for whatever reason that part felt like the longest work-week I’ve had since I’ve been here. It was one of those weeks that for whatever reason everyone just felt the need to be rude constantly. As much as I usually love this job and talking with people who stay at the hotel about the park, every now and then you just get people who are incredibly obnoxious and rude, and this week had a strange concentration of them. I guess that’s just work though, not really a big deal.
After that I had a pretty good mini-weekend leading into my family arriving for the week. I went to a whole bunch of bars with one friend on Thursday and a different friend on Friday, and honestly found that this town can be pretty fun, at least in the summer time and with the right people. I also finally set up my hammock, which makes a surprisingly large difference. Laying around doing nothing in the woods compared to doing the exact same in my room feels like night and day. I think I finally actually found a decent spot to sit and reflect weekly as well in doing so, which is something I’ve been meaning to do since I’ve been here.
I also had a night that felt nice enough for two cigars, which is a rare occurrence for me since usually that’s gross. But when the sunset takes longer than cigar one takes to smoke, what else are you supposed to do?
I also journaled for the first time in forever this week, which felt nice (and necessary). I wasn’t very good at it, but I guess like anything I have to get back into the swing of things. My least favorite feeling is coming away from a piece of writing and feeling like it’s unfinished, but with nowhere else to go. Alas, sometimes writing is a process that takes more than one iteration to get right, and journaling is no different. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it takes more than 15 minutes of penciling down thoughts to successfully think out life’s major issues. Still frustrating though,
My family being here has already been a lot of fun. I really enjoy getting to be a pseudo-tour guide, and showing the place I’ve gotten to take in as my backyard to people I love has been fantastic. We did the south loop of the park today, and while they’re here I’ll get to show them the north loop, the Grand Tetons & Jackson Hole, and some of the cooler stuff in my surrounding area outside the park as well. It’s a pretty cool feeling getting to show off the stuff I’ve made a home.
Other than that, this week just kinda felt like a whirlwind. A lot happened as far as it seems to me, and I was pretty surprised when I remembered it was already time to write a blog again. Hopefully I’ll continue being able to settle back into my rhythm, and I’m hoping to pick my album review series back up this week as well. I’ve been listening to a good bit of music lately but haven’t gotten the chance to reflect on much of it.
Anyways, I’m expecting this week to be a ton of fun. I get to keep showing my family around, and even though I unfortunately have to work a couple 7am shifts when they leave, it’ll feel decent to fall back into working again too.
No grand conclusion this week, just a weird week that was in equal parts confusing, fast, and fun.
Song of the Week:
